The Berlin Wall actually had two walls constructed to separate the East and the West, with "No Man's Land" in between. Today, this area of the wall has the rusted rods of the structure still in place, and is surrounded by a lush garden. But over 40 years ago, it was covered with barbed wire and search lights. The East Germans were told to shoot anyone they saw attempting to scale the Wall. If you reached the second wall, it was almost impossible to climb alone, since the tops of the Wall were rounded to prevent getting a good grip on it.
