Albrecht Dürer was a doer

Renaissance printer, theorist, and painter. Ever heard of Albrecht Dürer? Before traveling to Germany, I hadnt heard his name since high school. But if you've seen the gallery image of his famous artwork "Praying Hands," (and you probably have) then you who I'm talking about. He actually lived right under the Imperial Fortress in Nuremberg, and today his house is a preserved historical site that had little damage from WWII. He's a pretty cool and enlightened dude who got to hang out with da Vinci and Raphael, so he's worth reading up on.
